Nonsense

Here is a mountain of many flags

Here a hornet of bees

Here is a time colored heartache

A fiat of muppets

Not blackbirds fly but stones

Here the pages ring off the hook

Sun circles the moon

Here eyes taste

Here we here

Here is military intelligence and honest politicians

Here compassion

Here humanness

Here care

Here is a mountain of many flags

first impression:

your Nonsense has got too much sense (both meaning and feeling)...

the first layer of meaning and feeling is communicated through the physical form of your poem.... powerfully...

Here is military intelligence and honest politicians

And exactly where is this place? If we had honest politicians and capitalism and everyone wasn't trying to fuck everyone one else over there wouldn't be any need for military intelligence, would there?

Fuck a mountain of many flags. It's just a bunch of different tribes of monkeys that want the other tribes to honor them.

This world only needs one flag, a white one with a globe of the world on it. Borders should only be so you can tell where you are on this rock, other than that we are one.

Nationalism is an infantile disease. - Einstein.

Well, in a Clint Eastwood movie it's "Hasta la vista baby" As he blows you away.

Or was that a line in that Arnold guys movie. Don't really recall. Yeah, I think it was Arnold, governor of bat shit crazy California.

Land of many fucked up gays and chicks with silicone tits.

Crow... thanks for first impressions... there's this whole field/genre of nonsense that's so interesting to me... and this is in some ways a follow of the post on pareidolia... and also from the last on hermeneutics...

BBC... military intelligence and honest politician are examples of oxymoron... where one term directly contradicts the next... like comfortable lawnchair... and about where that place called HERE is... it's just nonsense... it doesn't exist... at least not yet... I was going to put in a line about THERE at the end but decided better of it... HERE is no THERE... and my friend I agree 100% that there should be only one flag... and a beautiful line from you:

"Borders should only be so you can tell where you are on this rock, other than that we are one."

If I had to pick a mantra it would be that WE ARE ALL ONE. Thanks for your thoughts Billy.

Fern...

Those links are hilarious... I loved picking through superbad... that's nonsense to the max... made me laugh and sort of puzzle and try to keep in mind that I shouldn't be taking that seriously...

And the song by Julia Nunes... didn't you know that she's a star on youtube already... that song is frigging real funny but she's got another one that I quite like that another of our blogger friends (Zoo) put me onto... you should check out her version of The Underdog by Spoon:

http://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=4h8cGEKzSwI&feature=related

This is just a funny and still totally nonsensical...

But you know what else I've been thinking... there is something to be gained and learned from nonsense... sometimes things that seem the most nonsensical have a much more important message... I think of some of the writing of Samuel Beckett and James Joyce (The Wake is mostly nonsense but seldom defined as such because people just don't get it), Dylan Thomas, and perhaps the greatest nonsense writer would be Gertrude Stein...

It's evident in lyrics from Bob Dylan, Woodie Gutherie, John Lennon, and many many others...

And I think some of what I'm trying to say strikes at your recent post questioning all those adjectives and nouns and the "whys" for doing it in the first place... because even nonsense can carry meaning and teach... no reason to think a writer should have to stick to any kind of formula for creation or the conventions established... I bet you could write an amazing piece without even having to use a noun at all...

hmmmm... maybe next post if I get real adventurous...

thanks for your comment...

Don't preach to me you little mother fucker. I'm older than you are. LOL

Come, sit on a beach with me, and bring some frigging beer.

BBC said...

And take a few minutes to learn how to make a proper link in a comment box. If an old fuck can do it you can do it.

Jon said...

Fern... I can't wait... Yippee!!!

BBC... didn't mean to sound like I was preaching... wouldn't do that to an old guy like you... lol... and yeah sitting on a beach having a few brewskies sounds nice... another day my friend...

and those links... hmmmm...

Oh yeah... that's how you do that... ;)

BBC said...

"kazamm... two weeks later you've got rounded beachglass... what do you think..."

I think that is your job because I have other things to do. Two weeks? Na, I think that you are pulling my leg, a little wave action won't produce those results in just two weeks.

And never put your beer cans in salt water to cool them down unless you want the salt water to eat holes through them.

That shit only works in movies.

BBC said...

Jesus you're a busy guy... how many sites do you have up???

You would know that if you looked at my profile. But the answer is 3, and for the most part one is dead because I killed the mother fucker. Or something like that.

Jon said...

BBC...
will keep that advice in mind about the beer cans... that would be a real tragic example of alcohol abuse for the salt to get at it...

and yeah... two weeks is all it takes for the glass... give it a try...

BBC said...

and there's two that you've kept up pretty much daily... what's the thing that distinguishes them...

I try to keep one to what I'm doing and discuss more serious stuff on the other one. Not that I always do that.

do you feel like you're spreading yourself a bit thin???

Actually, I think I spread it pretty thick.

and just a question... but have you ever thought of starting up a site and writing as someone you're not...

Why would spirit want to do that?

anyways... that idea about the beachglass... it does work...

The whole idea of looking for beach glass is getting to a beach and looking for it. Why in the hell would we want to make it?

If you make it it isn't beach glass, it's just another monkey fucking around. :-)

My first blog was over two years old so I decided to retire it. Blogs are pretty much useless for my intent anyway, they don't read like books, all we are doing on them is fucking around.

Jon said...

BBC...
Yeah... I should have known that I was just laying out bait when I said the spreading it thin line... you sure do spread it on thick!!!

I may try to come up with a similar layout but different meaning.

Brilliant!

Nonsense?

Is this not very much like trying to tell a story
With images?

A literary mosaic
If you will

Could a single image capture all the same elements?
Would an image be open to more interpretation
Than these words?

Is not the story
Always told in the mind of the observer?

Whether told with words
Pastels
Watercolor
Images
Sounds…

Marshal McCluen said
“The medium is the message”

We have differing expectations for differing media…

The artist may challenge this notion
Or use it to his or her advantage.

No matter what the medium
Your story will be open to interpretation.

As you said about Peter and the Wolf
Culture does come into it

However
I think Tchichovsky would have liked to point out
As would Eisenstadt, Wells, Hitchcock, and so many others…

At some levels we are all culturally identical.

We recognize and fear many of the same things
And we respond in a similar way, to many kinds of stimulus

These subtle nuances
Are the playthings
Of master story tellers
In any medium.

oh yes nonesense is closely related to pareidolia and also hermeneutics... what makes sense to someone may has no sense to another... or a nonesense may become something sensible when we change our p.o.v.

2nd impression:

'Here is a mountain of many flags'

the poem begins and ends with this sentence...
the feeling and the meaning i get from the first one is totally different from the one at the end... this shift is done through the images presented in between... many of them quite contray to each other...
the first mountain is heap of trash i'd like to burn down...
the second one is a hill covered by patches of grass and colorful flowers i'd love to climb up...

and this is the magic wand of the poet transforming things in a wink of an eye...
:)

I feel so fortunate to be explosed to all this poetry and all the interpertations of it...other's ideas, and wonderings...comments...so rich, and rewarding.
I like the white flag and one world idea of BBCs...probably first thing of his I've ever seen as positive...
and how funny that you made the link...
I still do not know how to do that.
Just happy to be a part of this group, even when I feel completely lost in the prose or poetrys meanings...
the comments usually help me gain a handle on it...a sight into it...

Now back to work which awaits...
pondering a mountain
of many
flags...

Zoo...
thanks for your comment... I've put a link up to you... and again... I love those random thoughts of the day...

Bobb...
Agree with you about the medium and the message... and the idea about the pastiche I like too... seems to me that more and more one form of art is blending into the others... there is no single form anymore... and there's something to be said for this online environment too... a kind of new realm for the arts... and one that I'm most interested in... and about this piece... yeah the spacing on the page is there to reinforce the title... I've always tried (when appropriate) to shape the words to suit the idea I'm trying to express... and in that way it is sometimes like painting with words... thanks for your thoughts as always...

Crow...
Yeah I'd hoped those sentences would carry different meanings... make us climb a mountain of nonsense to come to some kind of semblance of an orderly idea... but I'm not too sure what that was ;)

Lynn...
Thank you very much for dropping by... I'm always interested in hearing your thoughts and ideas... my favorite thing about this forum (this new medium of online collaborative creativity as I see it) is the people... the different point of views expressed (including BBC ;) and how in some way there is a consensus found... though we all have our own opinions and lived experiences that we carry into this sphere there is space for everyone... I like the fluidity of this space and I've gotten an awful lot out of working here... and the value of it is apparent to me... thanks again Lynn...
