Poetic Inquiry

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.
(from "The Waking", T. Roethke)

S A
a room with more exits than entrances
a river painted plaid
the sheets rustle

L W
I see through feline eyes
a marble oscillating
a yellow yolk
peeking through the curtains
E A
a bumblebee finds pollen in a flower
the whir of the bean grinder
the alarm buzzing in my ear

E K
my cat coat keeps me warm
a cocoon against daylight
but still I'm losing the path back
where dreams dwell

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! I like the idea of a cat coat. With whiskers on the zipper, and matching gloves with claw tips. although i guess you probably meant live, warm cats coating a bed. And certainly, I like them best with their total catness intact, annoying though the little devils may be.

My wife thought it would be nice to have a pair of cats.

Jon, I gotta tell you, most days I wish the little bastards would lose 'the path back'. Especially at five in the morning... when I'm trying to stay in that place 'where dreams dwell'.

i like how you explore ( dwell??) in this space between sleep and awake. the word choice and their positioning feels ( to me) like how it feels to be in that in between place. nicely done, you.

I can only guess at a drowsy wake up. A cold wet nose poking you in eye and ear tends to inhibit that state of being.
